Short answer: A dental savings plan is a yearly membership that lowers what you pay at participating dentists. Plans we checked cost from $49.92 to $184.95 a year. With one sample plan, a crown listed at $1,468 costs $852, and a cleaning drops from $137 to $58. This section helps you decide if a plan fits you.
Dental savings plans are not insurance. A plan gives you discounts only at participating dentists. It does not pay the dentist for you, and you pay for all services at the discounted rate. Prices, discounts and dentists vary by plan and ZIP code.
How a dental savings plan works
You pick a plan that your dentist accepts and pay a yearly fee. The plan usually starts within 1 to 2 business days. At each visit, you show your card and pay the plan’s reduced fee straight to the dentist. There is no yearly maximum, no deductible and no waiting period once the plan is active.

How to use this section
First, check which plans your current dentist accepts. Then compare the yearly fee with the work you expect this year. A plan often pays off with one large job, like a crown, a root canal or dentures. If you already have insurance, a plan can still help after you reach your yearly maximum. Read our insurance guides to compare, or see what dental treatments cost.
Sample fees vary by plan, dentist and ZIP code. Ask your dentist to confirm the plan price before treatment.
