Prices checked October 22, 2026. By Lorenzo Beux.
Short answer: No dental insurance does not mean full price for everything. A routine cleaning listed at $137 costs $33 to $58 with the sample savings plans we checked. Some plans cost under $50 a year. Dental schools and community health centers can also cut the bill.
Dental savings plans are not insurance. A plan gives you discounts only at participating dentists. It does not pay the dentist for you, and you pay for all services at the discounted rate. Prices, discounts and dentists vary by plan and ZIP code.

How to use this section
Start with the five ways to pay less. If you need a lot of work, or money is very tight, read the free and low-cost care guide next. If you have a dentist you like, check which savings plans they accept. Then look up your treatment in our cost guides, like fillings or root canals, to know a fair price.
Thinking about insurance instead? Premiums average $49.60 a month in 2026, and major work often has a waiting period. Our savings plan vs insurance guide compares both. If you have pain, bleeding or swelling, see a dentist soon.
Dental savings plans are not insurance. They provide discounts at participating providers. You pay the provider directly at the time of service. Prices vary by provider and ZIP code. This page is for information only and is not dental or financial advice.
